Project Goal
Create a short course that helps learners recognize hazards and take preventative actions. Training must be quick and easy for people to take.
The Situation
At Canadian Natural, slips, trips, and falls are leading causes of workplace incidents. Employees using various work sites encounter daily situations where such accidents can occur, leading to injuries that impact individual well-being and operational efficiency. Many incidents occur because people aren’t paying attention, or they are working out of habit without realizing the potential risks.
The Challenge
Your job is to develop a concise, impactful module adapted from existing material to educate Canadian Natural employees on critical prevention strategies for slips, trips, and falls. The module should distill essential content, focusing on immediate actions and awareness to mitigate risks. This course needs to be templated for use with similar courses in the future.
Audience
All employees at Canadian Natural, mandatory for those in operational or field roles.
Training Objectives
By the end of this course, the learner should be able to:
- List the most common causes of slips, trips, and falls in the workplace.
- Describe Canadian Natural’s current safety statistics related to slips, trips, and falls.
- Explain the company’s housekeeping rules and why they are important.
- Identify proper footwear and personal protective equipment (PPE) for preventing slips, trips, and falls.
- Locate and review the company’s hazard reporting procedures and resources.

We want to update the existing course assets to make them more engaging and current. Repurposing existing media is fine to speed up production. Use other engaging visuals to depict common hazards and preventive measures. Integrate interactive elements that allow users to engage with the content actively.
Interactions and Media
Creative use of existing videos. Short, dynamic animations demonstrating preventive measures. Infographics highlighting statistics and quick safety tips. A drag-and-drop or click-to-reveal interaction identifying hazards in a workplace scenario and/or identify and place the proper PPE on a character.
